2003 Religious Outreach Committee 4-Week Series at St. Mark's United Methodist Church

AU Sacramento's Religious Outreach Committee has arranged a 4-week series to discuss the history, issues, and interpretations of the principle of separation of church and state at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 2391 Saint Marks Way, Sacramento. The second session is Sunday, November 9, 9:30-10:45 a.m. and features Dr. Leigh Johnsen, scholar of religious studies, will speak on the early American origins of church-state separation.

Future sessions will be held Sunday mornings in November and feature:
  • November 9: Dr. Leigh Johnsen, scholar of religious studies, will speak on Isaac Backus and religious liberty in the 19th Century

  • November 16: Alan Brownstein, Professor of Constitutional Law at University of California, Davis, will discuss the major church-state issues of the 20th Century

  • November 23: Carol Venarde, Americans United's California Legislative Liaison, will discuss faith-based initiatives and programs, executive orders and other recent developments.
